About Me
Hello, my name is Lorri Hodges and I have been an educator in DCSD for over 20 years! During my journey as a teacher, I have nurtured students from Kindergarten through 6th grade. I have been a Reading Specialist, a First Grade classroom teacher and a Third Grade classroom teacher. Now, I have embarked on a new journey which has tapped into my LONG time passion, teaching children art!
In my younger years, I would spend hours drawing and painting and I was even fortunate enough to be accepted into advanced art classes. During my collegiate journey, I began my studies as an Art Major at Texas Woman's University. I then transferred to Texas A&M University and shifted my focus to children and earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with a special emphasis in Early Childhood Development. I also have a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Phoenix. I am currently pursuing adult level art classes to enhance my own skill set and grow as an artist.
I am thrilled to be able to take my initial love and inspire the students I work with everyday! I wish to share my passion for art with all students and encourage them to be creative problem solvers, inspire them to tap into their imagination, and embolden them to embrace color, texture, and the creative process. We will get to know master artists and their styles, learn about solid elements of art, experiment with new materials, and work on new techniques together, to create rich and beautiful masterpieces. It is my hope that through immersing students into the world of their own creativity and personalizing art goals, every student will blossom into a confident talented artist!
Besides teaching, I love to take time to paint, spearhead home improvement projects, cook for my family, spend time in the beautiful outdoors of Colorado, and travel with my family. My husband and I have two teenage boys Aidan and Noah and a Shiba Inu named Luna. They keep us on our toes!
I work hard to make every student walk away with confidence and pride in their creations and I think art is an amazing way to help take care of our social and emotional well being. I love being able to be part of our AMAZING Lone Tree Community. I know my Aspiring Artists afternoon clubs and summer camp will provide a positive creative outlet and inspire your child to think outside of the box. I hope you enjoy seeing your little ones blossom and grow with me!
My mission is to inspire students to tap into their imagination, and embolden them to embrace color, texture, and the creative process.
“My art students are often amazed at what they can do.”
